WHOSOEVER MINISTRY UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST·TUESDAY, JANUARY 1, 2019
When a year ends it marks the closing of a door. As the celebration settle down and the commotion has quieted, the truth is that you must not get stuck by looking back. God has told us ‘that I know the plans that I have for you, plans to give you hope and a future. God wants us to look ahead toward the light, the insight and wisdom that you are walking in. By believing in Jesus you have given Him the responsibility and possession of your life. He has already begun to plant kingdom focused desires in your heart and cause you to reach toward them with great passion. You already want what He wants. Your life has become hidden in Him, meshed with Him.
And now set aside any thoughts of depression, regret, anger, loss and, any diagnosis lingering from 2018. You have marching orders to keep stepping right into 2019! His word is the light that will guide you along toward our destination. Our destination is the future that God has promised to each of us and all of us who believe. While here on this side of life, the Lord has promised us an abundant life (John 10:10) This future is not far away. While you read this letter, your future has already begun right here, right now.
When the good byes are gone, trust God, let them stay gone. God, the Master gardener prunes back our lives so that we can bear more fruit. (John 15:2) Remember, God is the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. Not only do things begin with Him, they end with Him and by Him. ‘…old things have passed away and all things have become new.’ (2 Corinthians 5:17) When Jesus died on the cross and was resurrected three days later, he took the sting out of death by defeating Satan. (1 Corinthians 15:55-57). Now we trust that even our loved ones who may have gone on to be with the Lord, this past year, we trust that they are with the Lord and, we trust that we will see them again. While death is a closed door, we trust our Lord when he says that no one will perish. (John 3:16)
Jesus closed the door to guilt for a woman, in John 8, when he told the woman caught in the act of adultery. ‘Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more.’ Another woman who met Jesus at a well, had the door of her past life shut for good, after she had had numerous relationships when Jesus met her where she was, in the thick of things, with five men in her life. That woman left her old life behind and went to evangelize her community.’ She had indeed found a new man, who is Jesus and she stepped into her future. The future that God had a plan for her life, long ago. Her past ‘he would remember no more.’ (Hebrews 8:12)
For you today, your responsibility is to only believe that Jesus has the authority to walk through closed doors to reach you and dispel any doubts you may have. He did this for a man named Thomas, doubted at first. (John 20:26,27) The Lord will have compassion on you and the angels have been dispatched to comfort you. Just like God told Joshua, after the door between Joshua and Moses had closed, when Moses died. ‘Be bold and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged for the Lord is with you wherever you go.’ (Joshua 1:1-9)
Choose to trust the Lord this year and lean not on your own understanding…and watch what happens for you! You will not be disappointed. The Lord is on the other side of the door knocking. This is the only door that you will ever need to open.
Be bold and courageous!
Praying to see you soon. I love you,
